A "Gateway Community" is a community in which the possibility exists of illegal immigrants being brought into the country with little attention. "Gateway Communities" usually are near at least one community which is fairly isolated, and where another language is regularly spoken and community customs are kept separate from, and are different than those of nearby communities. This allows not only people to easily come in to the United States from other countries, but also allows money laundering to easily take place. (More info about money laundering appears on my "Money Laundering and Fraud" page). Wooster, Ohio is a "Gateway Community" because there is a large population of Amish nearby, who speak various German dialects. These people regularly travel through the area, and are very noticable, but in some "Gateway Communities", this is not the case. In the case of money laundering, crooks usually send out a 'feeler' first, to someone in the community, and request is usually to set up an account for person, for a certain percentage given to person setting up this account. Then, the illegal immigrant 'appears' as some sort of 'businessperson' who has already been established in the USA as a businessperson, and is rarely questioned. This is an opportunity for people, who would not be granted visits to the USA to become citizens here by bypassing the normal channels, due to enablers. The problem with this, as I have mentioned on my "Money Laundering" page, is that many of these people could be denied entry into USA for various reasons, and "could be" terrorists. Because so many people are greedy and money motivated, this kind of thing goes on all the time, and is never investigated, until there is an extreme problem, like the recent "terrorist trend" that was brought forward in the media. Many of these isolated commuities exist because of the fact that the individuals in them purposely exclude those who are not a part of their group, (sort of like a gang)but also enable this terrorism. Like many other things, I believe that these 'enablers' within these isolated, segregated communities who are enabling terrorists would like to get out of this role, but have no idea how to accomplish this. I think a lot of these kinds of things got started because people had friends or relatives in other countries, who were denied access to the United States for various reasons, but were already in the United States themselves. Then, once the trend got started, the word got out, and as with many other things which have gotten power through an initial impetus, is difficult to stop. I think the problem has been compounded by greedy people sho consider this "easy money" and who really don't care what the repercussions are.
